Friends if only my kids were little again!  We have the absolute sweetest diy play tea cart for this week's Handbuilt Holiday gift plan:

diy kids play tea cart

Run and gather the minimal supplies to make this right now!  As promised Ana White and I share one new gift build plan every Friday through Christmas and today does not disappoint.  To see all the previous weeks projects click here.

I mean seriously how can you not want or need one of these adorable tea carts?  I'm thinking we might just need an adult size too.

I used inexpensive railing spindles for the legs and I made the scallop trim from 1/4" plywood.  There are various ready made decorative trims available at the craft stores that would work too.

Ana made these simple plans here so you can embellish to fit your needs.

I found an $8 plastic tea set at Homegoods and all the wood treats and cupcakes are DIY projects.

Follow Ana's plans here for materials, cut list and step by step instructions.

To add the casters predrill a 3/8" hole in the bottom of the spindles, hammer the collar into the hole and then snap the caster post in place.

DIY Portable Tabletop Play Kitchen

Happy Friday friends, welcome to another Handbuilt Holiday gift plan and today is a portable tabletop play kitchen.  Seriously why didn't I have this for my kids when they were little?????

diy portable tabletop play kitchen

It's Week 7 of this series which means we only have 5 weeks left to get building but don't worry that's still plenty of time.  Every Friday Ana White and I present a new holiday gift build project with free plans, to see all the previous weeks (and years) click here:

Being the genius that she is Ana designed this tabletop kitchen to be portable by making the hutch portion removable!  Of course you could always build it to be stationary but having a toy that packs in on itself is just to much fun, it's part of the play.

We used dowels inserted into the cook base and hutch which keep the pieces stable and secure:

I used this kitchen set here (affiliate link) and all the pieces fit inside the hutch, including the dowels:

DIY Kids Street Vendor Cart

Let's building something fun and versatile for the kids this week, how about a kids street vendor cart?

It's Friday and week 6 of the Handbuilt Holiday series with Ana White and myself.  Which means we only have 6 weeks left to build all the fun gifts for Christmas!!  Hooray!

Today we are sharing plans for a street vendor cart that truly could be anything: a lemonade stand, a bookmobile, an ice cream stand, or even a farmers market.

I went with the holiday goodies theme and used the street vendor cart for sweet treats and hot cocoa.

This cart is built almost completely from 1x3 boards which are very easy to handle, cut and assemble.

Build an Indoor Log Holder

Getting prepared for the winter season today and I’m sharing an indoor log holder constructed using Simpson Strong-Tie® connectors.  This indoor log holder is only one of many projects featured over at DIY Done Right, a site all about using Simpson Strong-Tie® products to make projects for your home.

diy indoor log holder

I’m a sucker for functionality and ease so I designed this indoor log holder with those two priorities in mind.

The simple construction allows for easy access to the logs, in addition you can modify the size to fit your needs.  Once the boards are cut the building process is very straight forward.

We are essentially building a box frame here.  I used all Simpson Strong-Tie® RTU2 connectors for this indoor log holder.

DIY Dining Room Sideboard

Gearing up for the holidays and I needed a small sideboard for my dining room so I designed and built this console to fit my space.

diy dining room sideboard with 3 drawers

In a land of behemoth size retail furniture it's hard to find a small scale sideboard so why not build it yourself?  I promise there is no drawer glide hardware involved almost all straight cuts so I would consider this to be a beginner project.  (I tapered the base of the legs but that's optional.)

diy dining room sideboard with 3 drawers

I put together free plans for everyone available at BuildSomething.com, they are step by step instructions including a supply list and cut list.  If you aren't familiar with BuildSomething it is Kreg's new DIY project plan site with hundreds of free plans to build all kinds of furniture.  Kreg makes the awesome Kreg Jig pocket hole jig which is a must have tool for anyone building DIY furniture.

DIY Crib Mattress Sectional Sofa

Hooray it's Friday and we have another gift build plan to share with you!  Today it's a crib mattress sectional sofa perfect for the playroom:

diy crib mattress sectional sofa

This gift build is for the whole family, the kids will enjoy their new comfy digs and the parents will enjoy not having to listen to those endless laugh tracks on the kids shows!

Save that crib mattress once your kids have outgrown the actual crib and repurpose it into a sofa.  Ana White made some easy modifications to her ever popular outdoor sofa and she now has plans for the crib mattress size.

handbuilt holiday gift plans

Ana and I have been busy bringing you new gift plans every Friday, this is week 4 of the 12 week series and by far the biggest bang for your buck.  Two crib mattresses and about 16 studs is all you need to make this beauty, that's less than $50 in lumber and I know a lot of you have a crib mattress on hand.

diy crib mattress sectional sofa

My kids came home from school and proceeded to jump on the new sofa and lounge about making good models so you can see the proportions and sizing, it's generous.
